11th Street - The Social District

A street for people.

What if a street could become the public space a neighborhood has been missing? In Downtown Los Angeles, The Social District is exploring a new future for 11th Street, reimagining seven blocks of car-dominated roadway as a shared street where pedestrians take priority. With a feasibility study outlining the possibilities, Kilograph was tasked with translating a complex urban vision into a short film that could capture the public's imagination and build support for the idea.

Making Room for Downtown Life

Rather than explaining the technical details of the plan, the film focuses on what a reimagined 11th Street could mean for the people who use it. From quieter residential blocks with green space and places to gather to lively entertainment destinations at either end, the story explores how one street could better connect Downtown's communities. The approach invites viewers to picture themselves in the neighborhood and consider what becomes possible when more space is given to people.

Bringing the vision to life.

Working primarily with existing project imagery, Kilograph introduced movement into static architectural renderings to help viewers experience the proposed street at a more human scale. Elements of The Social District's established visual identity were brought to life through animated typography and motion graphics, connecting the imagery into a cohesive film. Together with aerial footage and photography, these elements translate a conceptual plan into a more immediate and engaging vision of what 11th Street could become.
